What is it?
Tinted lenses have been bathed in tint colours and can assume just about any colour shade or density.
|
The Lowdown
Tint density is defined as a percentage, where 0% is completely clear, and 100% permits no light to pass through (opaque). A 10% to 20% tint is normally used for “fashion” tint, and a 50% to 80% tint is used for outdoor protection from the sun. Tinting is the most economical and popular of the 3 solar treatments. You can choose between single-tone tinting, which is one colour throughout the entire lens, or gradient-tinting, in which colour gradually fades from top to bottom (as shown in picture above).

|
What is it?
Lenses automatically darken to a moderate shade when exposed to ultra-violet rays of direct sunlight. The shading lightens up when the lenses are no longer subject to direct sunlight.
|
The Lowdown
Older transition lenses used to take several minutes adjusting to change in lighting condition. Nowadays, transition lenses take mere seconds. Colours come in basic brown or grey, other available colours come at an increased price.
